Nevada Volunteers, formerly Nevada Commission for National & Community Service, Inc. (NCNCS), was established as a 501(C)3 organization in 1998 and, by executive order, given full authority as the Governor's commission for the administration of AmeriCorps programs. NCNCS was created to link community-building organizations with the resources to utilize people who can make a difference.

We have been administering AmeriCorps programs since 1998.  During that time,  over 2,047 AmeriCorps members have served their communities in 15 programs around the Silver State.  AmeriCorps members have provided more than 2,547,637 hours of service.  AmeriCorps programs have helped Nevada prepare our students for school through tutoring and mentoring; responded in times of emergency; provided comprehensive reintegration experiences for homeless people; implemented environmental restoration and conservation initiatives statewide and helped expand inclusion services to our citizens with disabilities.

Those same Nevada AmeriCorps members earned $4,718,359 in education awards to pay college tuition and/or pay down existing student loans. 

A new goal for the commission is to develop a statewide system that connects volunteers with groups that need them most. Last year, Nevada AmeriCorps members recruited and managed more than 3,373 community volunteers throughout the state who donated more than 23,039 hours of community service.

Last year, Nevada Volunteers awarded six AmeriCorps program grants and one AmeriCorps planning grant supporting national service activities for 194 AmeriCorps members.
